Daily Melting
RESONANT FILTER

A very resonant low-pass filter effect highlights the daily melt values measured over the entire 54-year period. The sound source is a very wide-band musical chord mixed with processed noise.

Daily Cumulative Melting
RESONANT FILTER

Cumulative melting adds each days' melt to the previous total for the year: this yields a more perceptible measure of melt activity compared to other years, even though it's a daily measure.

Steel Drum s

Daily Albedo values are converted directly to one of 128 possible steel drum pitches, which are then adjusted to fit within a scale. Each note's velocity is inversely mapped so that low albedo yields low-pitched notes played with greater intensity.

Daily Temperature values are converted directly to one of 128 pitches on an FM (Frequency Modualation) synthesizer, which are then adjusted to fit within a scale. High notes play with greater intensity, as velocity and various FM synthesis variables change with the data.

Daily Albedo steel drums play along with the Daily Melting resonant filter effect. Albedo steel drums audible towards the right speaker, Melt resonant filter towards the left speaker.

Daily Albedo steel drums play along with the Cumulative Daily Melt resonant filter effect. Albedo audible towards the right speaker, Cumulative Melt owards the left.

Daily Albedo steel drums play along with the Daily Temperature FM Synthesis effect. Albedo steel drums audible towards the right speaker, Temperature FM synth towards the left speaker.
